NOAA’s Custom Chart Maker

7:00 - 9:00 pm

Our next Educational Series seminar explains NOAA’s new Custom Chart Maker.  The traditional paper charts we grew up with will no longer be updated and will be fully retired from publication by 2025.  They are being replaced by electronic charts.

However, if you would still like updated paper copies, you can use NOAA’s new Custom Chart tool to make custom charts that can be printed by commercial printers.

Learn more about this useful new tool and how commercial and recreational boaters are managing the transition.

The seminar is presented by Gary and Shelley Markle from the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Chicago Harbor Lighthouse - Past, Present, and Future

Chicago Harbor Lighthouse - Past, Present, and Future presented by Edward Torrez from the Friends of the Chicago Harbor Lighthouse, the non-profit formed to save Chicago’s iconic lighthouse. The Chicago Harbor Lighthouse was constructed in 1893 for the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago celebrating the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’ arrival in the New World in 1492. The lighthouse moved to its current location in 1919. Although having fallen into disrepair in recent years, the lighthouse continues to symbolize Chicago’s history and unique maritime past. COLD WATER SURVIVAL

6:30 - 8:30 PM

Join us at Burnham Park Yacht Club as Don Waller presents an unspoken yet crucial topic. Are you prepared for Spring and early Summer sailing in Lake Michigan?  Are you prepared for a man-overboard in water temps in the low 50s? That carries the real risk of"cold-water shock", which is immediate and one of the most severe shocks a human can face, with deadly effects.  20 percent of victims die within 2 minutes. If the person can be rescued, are you and your crew educated on what to do as hypothermia sets in?
