ROOKIE REGATTA SERIES

June 29 - September 14, 2024

Have you ever considered racing but don’t know where to start?  Well CASRA (Chicago Area Sail Racing Association) has a new series just for you. The CASRA Rookie Regatta Series.

It is designed to give those new to racing sailboats an opportunity to try their hand at racing in a more relaxed environment.  You will not be racing against “serious racers”.  You will have easy-to-follow instructions and courses.  You will have a “starting window” to ease tensions at the start.  No spinnakers are required or allowed.  Just a fun time and opportunity to “hone” some sailing skills.

• The series consists of seven races, participate in any or all of them.

• Races are held on Saturdays and Sundays starting at 1:00pm.

• Races are planned to take 60-90 minutes to complete.

• Marks on the course are highly visible and do not require GPS

• Races have a 15-minute starting window to reduce crowding at the line.

• Rating certificates are not required.

• Jib and Main sailing only, no spinnakers.

• CASRA will provide a mentor upon request if you would like an experienced racer on board.

• Skippers and boats with significant experience are discouraged from participating.

• One $50 entry fee covers all races.

To add to the fun, we will have dock parties at the various sponsoring yacht clubs following each race.  Awards will be handed out and experienced racers will be on hand to answer any questions.

Still want some help?  We have started a mentor program where you can get an experienced racer to ride along and coach you before and during the race.
